Okay.....I told you this is new to me. Here's what I have learned since the first post (the first post is below this one. I can't figure out how to make it first on the page. If you know how, let me know.):
So far I have made a "post" and there are 3 "comments" to that post. If we set the site up as a team site, all of you will be able to make "posts" and the rest can add their "comments" on each one. Just like when we send emails and others send their responses. Except those responses sometimes get a little confusing when too much time elapses. This way each post has only the comments pertaining to it. Okay? It can even include pictures.
Both my offspring have these blog sites....mostly for their businesses.
It seems to me we could use this kind of site to post all those reunion pictures and all the other information we had on the website. With these exceptions: it is free....it does not take a web tech person to maintain it.
I'm going to ask those of you who are in the "know"....is this a good thing?....are we taking any chances?.....what is the downside?
If you want to do this, I will add your email address to the site. You will receive an invitation to join the team. To do this you will be directed to sign up for a google account (it's free). They state they do not sell the addresses or violate your privacy in any way. Using your email address as ID you will select a password, etc., etc. This is called "Adding Authors".
Again, those of you in the "know"......are we taking any chances with our email addresses?
Now, we have the ability to keep this among the team. That means only those on the team can log on and read the posts and the comments. That means our AHS current email address book. No other email addresses will be able to look up or enter the site.
If we want to we can "Add Readers" to the site. These email addresses would be able to enter the site and read the posts and comments. We get to say who is allowed to do this.
Okay, that is what I know up to this point. At this time all you will be allowed to do is "comment" on this post. I hope you will do so and say what you think. This is only a suggestion. I'm not trying to force it on you. Try it. Instructions on how to make a comment are in the first post and the 3 comments found there. Read all of them.

I agree with those who find the photographs too small and not down-loadable. I like the chat thread structure: it lets people avoid what they may wish to avoid, and to target in on what they find particularly interesting. Plus, it permits you to keep on subject, while our e-mails frequently get somewhat temporally tangled as opposed to being in any logical sequence. On the other hand, it fragments the community along fissures of interest, which may not be useful for a disparate group like ours, in which virtually our only common thread is that we went to school together 48 years ago. If this were a subject matter group (like a collection of WWII re-enactors, for example), it would make more sense.
I don’t think there’s any spectacular danger of identity theft through this venue, but I must confess to not enjoying having too many online personae. The blog sites exist, after all, at least partly to make money for their creators and sponsors, typically through targeted advertising. That does not happen with e-mail, unless you have malware on your machine.
All that said, we are compulsive communicators (with apologies to David Attenborough). I imagine we’ll keep sending information by whatever medium is available. But I personally would prefer to see the resurrection of the Bill Myrick web site.
And e-mail worked reasonably well, without my having to register with Google. I shall now have to elmininate their cookies periodically, as the company privacy statement indicates they are tracking cookies, and it is no businee of Google and its parent and subsidiary companies where the heck I go on the net.
Peace out, people.
Businee? Na, man kann das doch verstehen, auch wenn ich nicht buchstabieren kann.
Actually, you can download the pix. But they have very low resolution and look quite sad when zoomed up to any reasonable dimension.
Maybe we should stick with e-mail for the pictures.
Well said Joe. I like this site for the same reasons. However, I think our group will read all the posts just because one of our group posted it.
I can't do anything about the cookies, but as soon as we decide to use this venue, at least part of the time, I intend to block entrance for all but our group.
Some of our picture gurus will have to work on the quality of the pictures. It's possible that the way they are being saved from the originating camera to the PC can be changed. Maybe that would provide a better download.
The fact remains...even if we are able to ressurect Bill's site, we have no one to maintain it.
Thanks for the input, Joe.
