Welcome to our site, classmates. I hope you find it pleasing and usuable. Anyone can post a comment anytime, just click on comment. Posts/comments are like email except there's no notification, no address book to keep up. Just make a habit of clicking on this site every day to see if there are any new posts. The posts are saved on this site with a date and title. That means we can catch up on what's happening anytime we want. We can go back to review previous posts. We can add pictures.
This is new to me, too, so I don't even know what is possible yet. But we can all work on it together. When you click on comment it takes you to a page to create an identity. Just use your name as we know you and create a password.
Hugs,
Marilynn

You don't have to select OpenID, Name/URL or Anonymous...just leave those blank.
At the top of the page in the yellow box you'll see that your comment has been saved.
To get back to the main page click on Ada High Cougars 1960 just underneath the yellow box.
Marilyn,
I think using a blog for our website is a great idea. It's much easier to manage. You can include photo galleries, video, and everything else - at least in the blogs I'm familiar with.
That domain name you mentioned -- that is only the registered name for a web site. You can't actually buy a domain name -- only rent one. $199 is exhorbitant. I pay about $10 a year for registering a domain name. We can use it as part of the blog name and not pay a penny -- the way your have done here.
Now as far as all the stuff that was on the existing web site, that depends. Basically you pay your hosting service (where the web site resides) a certain amount a year -- about $80 - 100. If you don't renew your annual service with the web host, they will essentially close it down and everything is gone -- some allow a grace period to download your stuff.
Typically when you're managing a web site, you create all the pages on your local (development) computer for testing and then upload when you're satisfied. That way you always have the current version on your PC even if something happens to the web site -- either a crash or being closed down.
Are the old web site files still stored on someone's PC?
Hope I answered your question. If you need help with the blog, let me know. I'm not an expert at that, but I can read directions.
John
Thanks for the information, John, and I'm assuming you are John Aldridge. See what I mean about using a name we will recognize. Of course, the reason the names on these comments are in blue is that you can click on them for a profile, which is the other means of knowing the person writing the comment. I haven't done that yet and neither did John.
I don't know if any of the original website information is stored on a PC. If it is it would be on Bill Myrick's. We are trying to find out about that.
The only other question some would like to know: are they taking a chance using their regular email on this blog?
I think the blog page is a great idea, as long as everyone join in. If not, we will loose communication with the class.
Merilynn, thanks for all the hard work.
Benny L. Brown
Marilyn,
Yes, this is John Aldriedge, in fact. Not sure why only my first name showed up. I've edited my Google account so maybe it will help. giving it a try.
John (Aldriedge)
Yes, Benny, it will only work if everyone wants to use it. That's why I'm going to keep pitching it to everyone. At worst, we will keep the old list and also use this blog site. Two ways to communicate.
Thanks, John, for identifying yourself. I was sure it was you though. Now you can see it has your full name. (Sorry, I have been omitting that "e").
Another thing I've learned...evidently we can post many comments under one post. Cool.
Okay classmates, time to try this out.
I really like seeing all the lunch bunch photos together. The blog idea is a good one, especially for those who don't check email a lot, but I love the chit-chat by email too.
If you click on "collapse comments" you just see the last one so you aren't re-reading the same ones. I hope Marilynn knows how to start a new thread, otherwise we may have a long string of comments!
I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. Maybe I should ask one of six grandkids. I'm sure they know all about this!! Hope all of you are well and have a great day!!
Marilyn,
You are helping me trust this stuff more. Thank you!
