Father Mike's Carnival

Hi To All.............Several of us attended Father Mike's "Carnival" on Sunday, June 7th. He definitely knows how to throw a party!! This is an annual carnival that is held on the grounds of Mike's church, as well as his residence. This year was celebrating Mike's 40th year as a priest. There were lots of booths of authentic Hispanic food (of which we sampled most ) as well as many activities for children. I would estimate the attendance around 200 people. Mike is greatly loved & respected by his parishioners and the little children adore him. LeDon, Nancy, Janet, & Sidney adore him, too!! John Paul Thrash attended the carnival on Saturday. We were there on Sunday.

This is a picture I took from my backyard in December, '08. In all my travels, I've never seen sunsets as beautiful as we have in Oklahoma.

Of my six grandchildren, I have four percussionists: Cody, Grady, Riley and Tobi.  I figure Brady will someday be one also.  I know I wanted to be in the percussion section after I got in high school, but Mother wouldn't let me trade since they had already bought that lovely clarinet!  At least my grandkids are carrying on.

Bill Myrick Update

I'm copying an email from Ben Sleigh:

I hope this gets out to everyone. I have not put all the e-mail addresses in since my e-mail address changed.
I went to see Bill Myrick today 08/28/08. He is on oxygen through his nose and uses a mask also. I spent about a half hour with him and could tell that he was beginning to tire. He is down to about 90 pounds. They won't seal the trach opening until he quits coughing up the congestion in his lungs. He hopes to be out of bed in the next couple of weeks. He does not have a computer so I'm trying to get him a used one from a friend of mine. He said that he does not want any of the Ladies to see him in his condition. He hopes to be well enough to make the next reunion. He said to tell every one that he reads the cards and letters that everyone has sent, but can not write to answer any of them. He wanted me to tell everyone that he thinks of us every day. I gave him my Police cell number and told him if he needed anything at all to get someone to call me.
I plan to visit him at least every other week.
He said to tell everyone that he will be at the October reunion
in spirit and gave me a poem to have some one read for him.
I will keep everyone informed as to his progress.
Love to All,
Ben

This is good news....we all think of Bill, too. Hopefully, he'll be reading this post sometime soon.

Hugs,
Marilynn

Mass Confusion, Frustration, etc., etc.

Hey Classmates.......Once again, I'm sorry for all the confusion. It's part of learning as you go. When I started the invite emails there were some things I didn't know.

First....that the email would have my name on it instead of the website, Ada High Cougars, etc., and that every email would look the same. (I sent it to myself at one of my other email addresses.)

Second....that I would have to send one for every page and we have four....they are separate from one another.

Third....that contributors are automatically viewers....so I didn't need to send two emails, at least to some of you. But, once I made the blogs private yesterday, if you didn't sign up as a contributor you wouldn't be able to view any of them either.

Fourth.....I didn't make sure you understood that one email says "view" and the other says "contribute".

If you still have the invite emails, look at them and respond to the ones that say "contribute" only.

Don't worry about it if you've already deleted, responded to the wrong one, or anything else. I will be able to tell from the listings on the site and advise you if it needs to be changed.

If your database information has changed, click on new post at the top of the page and make a post to list the changes. I'll have to change the database myself.

Hugs with Hopes of Forgiveness and Patience,
Marilynn

Marilynn, you have gone to great lengths to keep this bunch in touch. Great job!
Thanks so much. Judy H.

Class Database

As you can see on your right, there are now 3 other blog sites for our class. The Picture Album, The Lunch Bunch, and now the Class Database.

You will not be able to navigate to the Database at this time. I have blocked it from view on the internet, except if you are a signed in member of our class with a password. Please test this and add a comment to let me know this block works.

This has been so easy to set up without being time consuming and it's free. We can all maintain it by adding pictures and thoughts. It will be blocked to all but our class so it will not be picked up by a search on google or anywhere else. (Right now, only the database page is blocked.)

I hope you will continue to give me input by clicking on comment. I don't think you have to give your email to comment. Michele entered a comment under anonymous.

Bill Myrick and Album Info

Hi Classmates,

The pictures of Bill have been added to a new page. Look to your right. At the top of the gray area you will see "Ada High Cougars 1960 Picture Album. Click on the link just below that. You will be taken to a picture alburm. Pictures may be added by anyone in our class (when I have added everyone's name) along with a caption of explanation. Click on a picture to enlarge it, then hit the back button to get back to the album.

What do you think? Do you want me to add your name so you can put some pictures in the album?

Pictures and Connections

Hey Classmates.....Joe K. brought up some valid points in his comment on the Aug 10 post.

One is that the quality of the pictures displayed is not the best. I hope some of you who are talented that way will investigate to see how that can be improved. I would like to have a separate album just for pictures, but I don't know if that is possible. When you post there is an option to upload a picture (I used this one because it was handy). As you can see it is possible to make it larger here than the ones I posted on the right. We'll have to check to see if it can be downloaded and what the quality is.

Another thing he brought up is that for some our only connection is that we went to high school together 48 years ago, so the blog site might not hold interest for all of us. I'm not disagreeing with that, but I think it goes a lot deeper than what it says on the surface.

We were talking about this during lunch last Monday. Judy Hanson has friends here in Ada from before kindergarten, so does Brenda Johnson, and many, many others. Do you realize that that is past 60 years of acquaintance? Besides just the years of duration, it's the years themselves. Those were the early years of our existence, the formative years, the years we first started building experiences and memories. It continued until we graduated high school and went our separate ways out into the world. There are roots there that will never wither and die, partially because we see the products of those roots in our current lives. It happens in any communication from those with whom we share roots, including a site like this. I, personally, read every word contributed by anyone on our email list, simply because they are on our email list and we share roots. How wonderful it is to be able to do so.

A New Thread

Okay classmates, here's a new thread (subject).

If you all like the idea of this blog enough to make it a team, you will all be able to start a new subject. Then others can chit chat about that subject (by comment) or change the subject. If you want to do that, even just to try it out, I will take the steps to do so as explained in the Aug 10 post.

It's really very much like our email chit chat, don't you agree?

New Information

Okay.....I told you this is new to me. Here's what I have learned since the first post (the first post is below this one. I can't figure out how to make it first on the page. If you know how, let me know.):

So far I have made a "post" and there are 3 "comments" to that post. If we set the site up as a team site, all of you will be able to make "posts" and the rest can add their "comments" on each one. Just like when we send emails and others send their responses. Except those responses sometimes get a little confusing when too much time elapses. This way each post has only the comments pertaining to it. Okay? It can even include pictures.

Both my offspring have these blog sites....mostly for their businesses.

It seems to me we could use this kind of site to post all those reunion pictures and all the other information we had on the website. With these exceptions: it is free....it does not take a web tech person to maintain it.

I'm going to ask those of you who are in the "know"....is this a good thing?....are we taking any chances?.....what is the downside?

If you want to do this, I will add your email address to the site. You will receive an invitation to join the team. To do this you will be directed to sign up for a google account (it's free). They state they do not sell the addresses or violate your privacy in any way. Using your email address as ID you will select a password, etc., etc. This is called "Adding Authors".

Again, those of you in the "know"......are we taking any chances with our email addresses?

Now, we have the ability to keep this among the team. That means only those on the team can log on and read the posts and the comments. That means our AHS current email address book. No other email addresses will be able to look up or enter the site.

If we want to we can "Add Readers" to the site. These email addresses would be able to enter the site and read the posts and comments. We get to say who is allowed to do this.

Okay, that is what I know up to this point. At this time all you will be allowed to do is "comment" on this post. I hope you will do so and say what you think. This is only a suggestion. I'm not trying to force it on you. Try it. Instructions on how to make a comment are in the first post and the 3 comments found there. Read all of them.

Welcome

Welcome to our site, classmates. I hope you find it pleasing and usuable. Anyone can post a comment anytime, just click on comment. Posts/comments are like email except there's no notification, no address book to keep up. Just make a habit of clicking on this site every day to see if there are any new posts. The posts are saved on this site with a date and title. That means we can catch up on what's happening anytime we want. We can go back to review previous posts. We can add pictures.

This is new to me, too, so I don't even know what is possible yet. But we can all work on it together. When you click on comment it takes you to a page to create an identity. Just use your name as we know you and create a password.

Hugs,
Marilynn
